About

Lakeview Cemetery was founded in 1878 by a group of citizens who thought the city ought to have a cemetery nearby.  Twenty acres of property were given to them by Nelson Ludington, an early Escanaba pioneer for whom Ludington Street was named.  The site selected was a mile and a half from Lake Michigan, at the western end of First Avenue South.  If you stood at the highest point in the cemetery, where the MacDonald monument is now located, you could actually see Little Bay de Noc.  It really was a “Lake View” location!

If you are looking for a peaceful, tree-filled setting as your final resting place, come check us out.  Our prices are comparable to other cemeteries in Escanaba.  We are not affiliated with any municipality, nor any religion.  We are an association of lot owners, a tax-exempt, not-for-profit 501c 13 corporation which welcomes your donations.

Our Board of Trustees serves as the governing body responsible for the stewardship, preservation, and long-term sustainability of Lakeview Cemetery.  As a non-profit organization, the Board ensures that all decisions support the cemetery’s mission of honoring the past, serving families with compassion, and maintaining the grounds as a respectful, accessible place of remembrance.
